About the Course

The RIIVEH201E – Operate a light vehicle course is a one-day program designed to provide participants with the knowledge required to safely perform light vehicle operations in workplace environments. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for this nationally recognised training course.  

This unit describes the skills necessary to work within the infrastructure industries and other relevant industry sectors, equipping participants with essential technical capabilities for safe and effective vehicle use.  

This competency can also be mapped to other courses, including:  

  • PMASUP236 – Operate vehicles in the field
  • RIIVEH305: Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle

What is a Light Vehicle?

A light vehicle is defined as any vehicle under 4.5 tonnes that includes provisions for carrying up to 12 passengers. This category includes:  

  • Sedans and Station Wagons.  
  • Utilities (2WD and 4WD).  
  • Vans, Mini Buses, and 4WD Sedans.  

During the course, participants will also learn about vehicle lights, equipment safety, and how to assess defective or irregular performance to ensure vehicles operate within a prescribed range and meet site requirements.

  • Understand and clarify work requirements before starting.

Our RIIVEH201E – Operate a light vehicle course starts at 7:45 a.m. and concludes at approximately 3:00 p.m. It offers a full day of hands-on training designed to meet site requirements and industry standards.

What You'll Need for the Course

To make the most of your RIIVEH201E – Operate a light vehicle training experience, please come prepared with the following essentials:

  • Unique Student Identifier (USI): A valid USI is required for all participants.
  • 4WD Vehicle: Two participants from the same organisation can share one 4WD vehicle. If you can’t access a 4WD, you can hire one from our fleet for an additional fee (see “Vehicle Hire” section below). Ensure the vehicle has at least half a tank of fuel.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license must be presented before the course begins.
  • Appropriate Clothing: Your attire must meet company policy, with at least a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, closed shoes with sturdy soles, and a hat.
  • Sunscreen & Insect Repellent: Essential for outdoor training.
  • Pad and Pen: For taking notes during the course.
  • Morning Tea, Light Lunch, and Water: Bring refreshments for the day, especially during warmer months.

Vehicle and Trailer Hire Options

At Australian 4WD Training, we understand that not everyone can access a 4WD vehicle or trailer. That’s why we offer affordable hire options to ensure every participant is equipped for a seamless learning experience during the RIIVEH201E – Operate a light vehicle course.

Vehicle Hire Details

Australian 4WD Training offers a fleet of well-maintained 4WD vehicles for hire, equipped with fuel, recovery equipment (when required), cleaning services, and coverage for wear and tear on brakes and tyres.

Our hire fees are:

  • 1-Day Vehicle Hire: $175 per person per day
  • Exclusive Use of a Vehicle: $200 per vehicle per day
  • Need a Trailer? We offer an 8 x 5 box trailer for hire at $100 per trailer

Participants may share a hired vehicle with another participant, ensuring equal driving opportunities. Additionally, more than one vehicle may be available, allowing participants to experience different 4WD types.
