4WD Training – Melbourne
Melbourne 4WD Training Facility
If you’re heading off-road for work in mining, drilling, construction, utilities, renewable or environmental fieldwork, knowing how to handle a four-wheel drive in tough terrain isn’t optional, it’s part of working safely. Our Melbourne 4WD training brings nationally recognised, hands-on skills into Victoria, helping workers and teams build real-world capability before they get out on the track.

Nationally recognised 4WD training delivered in Melbourne
Australian 4WD and Advanced Driver Education is owned and operated under the banner of Link Resources (RTO 45483), a registered training organisation known for delivering practical, workplace-relevant programs across Australia. Our Melbourne 4WD course follows that same approach, built around nationally recognised units and aligned with the demands of industries that rely on safe vehicle operation in remote and off-road environments.
The focus is firmly on practical application, with participants spending time in real conditions that reflect what they are likely to encounter on the job. Steep ascents and descents, loose surfaces, deep washouts, and uneven tracks are all part of the training, allowing drivers to build capability and a clear understanding of how vehicles respond across changing terrain.
What our Melbourne driver training facility is built for
Delivered within a national park setting and excellent options on both the east and west side, our Melbourne 4WD training is conducted in carefully selected environments that offer a varied and realistic off-road experience. The terrain is intentionally diverse, giving participants exposure to steep slopes and descents, uneven tracks, loose surfaces, and natural obstacles that require considered vehicle control and clear decision-making behind the wheel.
The environment gives both first-time off-road drivers and those with some prior experience a comprehensive, appropriately challenging experience.
Across our 4WD courses, participants work through a range of environments and practical scenarios, which may include:
- Natural bush tracks with varying gradients, surfaces, and traction conditions
- Ascents, descents, and side slopes that require careful vehicle positioning and control
- Loose and uneven tracks that challenge steering, braking, and throttle application
- Sections designed to build awareness around hazard identification and driver decision-making
- Opportunities to practise recovery techniques in controlled, real-world conditions
- Open areas for manoeuvring, vehicle handling, and applied driving techniques
Our core 4WD skill set training course
The core program we deliver in Melbourne is the 4WD Skill Set Training — a practical, hands-on course for workers who need to operate four-wheel drive vehicles safely across remote and off-road environments.
The program includes:
- RIIVEH305F — Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle
- PMASUP236 — Operate vehicles in the field
- RIIVEH201E — Operate a light vehicle
Course pricing
- $620 per person (bring your own vehicle)
- Vehicle hire available $175 per person
Participants develop competency in pre-start checks, recovery procedures, and emergency operations, alongside driving techniques for steep inclines, washouts, and unsealed roads. The course covers vehicle recovery methods and workplace health and safety requirements, with training delivered through a combination of classroom instruction and practical, hands-on assessment.
For teams operating in remote and off-road settings
Our Melbourne 4WD training environment has been selected to reflect the conditions faced by workers operating in remote and off-road settings across Victoria. It supports training for a wide range of industries, including utilities, water authorities, parks and land management, environmental consulting, construction, and resources, where safe vehicle operation is part of day-to-day work.
The setting allows both new and experienced drivers to work through terrain that feels relevant to their role, with enough variation to challenge decision-making and vehicle control without removing accessibility.
For those who can’t travel to our training facility, our team can travel anywhere across Australia to deliver customised training programs at your site.
Why Melbourne organisations choose Australian 4WD Training
Real-world conditions, not simulated environments
Participants spend time in terrain that mirrors what they are likely to encounter on the job, building practical understanding through application rather than observation.
Aligned with safety and compliance requirements
Delivered under Link Resources (RTO 45483), the program aligns with nationally recognised units and workplace safety expectations, supporting organisations operating in higher-risk environments.
Practical, hands-on delivery
Time is spent behind the wheel working through real scenarios, allowing participants to develop sound judgement and a clear understanding of vehicle behaviour across changing conditions.
Flexible for teams across Victoria
Training can be delivered for individuals or teams, either within our Melbourne training environment or on-site, helping organisations train their workforce with minimal disruption to operations.
Build capability before you’re out in the field
Operating a 4WD in remote or off-road environments carries risk and responsibility, and the best time to develop those skills is before they’re needed on site. Our Melbourne training facility gives individuals and teams the opportunity to do that in a practical, controlled environment.
